Training and Inservice Information

Mathematics University was started after the last Florida mathematics textbook adoption. As demands for higher standards have increased, the search for relevant mathematical training for K-8 teachers to complement the demands has also increased. The purpose of Mathematics University is to help teachers create better math students, through NCTM based standards and quality hands-on mathematical instruction. We specialize in the Everyday Mathematics product.

Background Information

Matthew McManus has been involved in education since the ripe age of 20 years old. 19 years later he is still actively involved in the educational system with the creation of Mathematics University. The reason that he has garnered so much success with the training of teachers is because he has taught every grade K-8. His ability to think back on each grade level’s classroom experiences has allowed him to be a troubleshooter on the spot at each training session.

He loves a conceptual challenge and is always quick to offer solutions for instantaneous problems presented by the participants. Discipline techniques become a main focus through properly engaged mathematics. The energy level he exudes will be present from the beginning of the workshop until the last minute spent together. Every workshop is entertaining and informative.

§         Parent Nights involving at-home activities for reteaching and enrichment

§         Lesson/Game Design specific to textbook series being used w/ full correlation to lessons for ease of implementation

§         K-6 collaboration of lessons that work in all grades using different rubrics for the same concept

§         School evaluations w/ mentoring and co-teaching

§         Modeled lessons in live classrooms

§         Spontaneous workshops done the next day with 24 hour preparation if needed in emergency situations

Workshops have already been done within Florida for Citrus, Gulf, and Volusia Counties. We have also done trainings for a variety of individual schools.The evaluations have ranked the workshops as one of the best that the teachers have ever attended. The return request rate is 100%. Prices and Fees

We vary in our price schedule according to the needs of the district. Most workshops have 6 hours of contact time within a 7 ½ hour day.
